  • Airplane

When my kids were toddlers, they liked nothing more than playing airplane with me.  I’d lift them up with my legs so they were “flying”.  Boy is that a good workout.

  • Cooking Shows

My kids love to watch cooking shows on TV - so we often try to do the recipes ourselves after watching. Great way to teach them the value of home cooking at an early age.

  • Dancing

Whenever the kids and I are watching TV together, we get up at every commercial and dance. Seems silly, but keeps us active even when we really aren’t!!

  • Don’t forget to make time for family

Don't forget to make time for family, even on the busy days. Five minutes of quality time together is better than none at all.

  • Family Breakfast

We find it impossible to do family dinner most nights, so instead we do family breakfast. We sit together for 15 minutes each morning to connect with one another and review daily plans and schedules.

  • Game Night

During the nice weather, we take family game night outside. Instead of board games, we play soccer, kick ball or basketball. Good fun together and great exercise.

  • Get your daily dose of sunshine in fall and winter

Switch your exercise routine to mornings in the fall and winter, so you get your daily dose of sunshine. Walking or running outdoors in the morning sunshine makes the shorter days and getting out of work when it's dark easier.

  • Give kids fruits to snack on

Giving kids fruits like apples and pears as snacks when they are really young preconditions them to reach for fruit as snacks later on, during their teen years.

  • Healthy Food

Your kids are watching you.  Try not to worry so much about calories and diets in front of them, but instead try to emphasize healthy food, portion control, and not eating when you’re not hungry.

  • Instead of eating out on the weekend, my boyfriend…

Instead of eating out on the weekend, my boyfriend and I like to pack a healthy picnic and eat in a local park. Instead of driving, we walk or bike to get some exercise and enjoy the day.
